Estate Planning Does your will incorporate your faith and values? Will the legacy you leave reflect the life you lived?

Focus on the Family Canada has partnered with ADVISORS with Purpose, a Christian financial planning group, to help you update your will or estate plan to ensure that it reflects your desires and fulfills your goals. Inadequate, outdated or non-existent wills can reduce an estate’s size through easily avoidable taxes. These taxes could thwart your wishes for how you want your estate’s proceeds to be distributed to your heirs, to fund ministries, or both. ADVISORS with Purpose is an objective third party who wants to help you steward your resources in the best way — taking care of your family and the Kingdom — when you’re no longer here to take care of it on your own and to keep the tax burden low on your loved ones who are left to take care of your estate. Whether your estate is large or small, everyone can benefit from ADVISORS with Purpose estate and gift planning services. If you’re interested in a complimentary consultation with an estate specialist or would like more information about ADVISORS with Purpose, please visit our Legacy Giving webpage. Top ^

Gift of Securities

A gift of securities is an ideal way to support the work God is doing through Focus on the Family Canada while avoiding the tax burden of capital gains. In the spring of 2006, the Canadian government eliminated the tax on capital gains when securities are donated to a private charity.

Under this new law, you are able to give securities direct to a charity, pay no taxes and receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities — either the closing value on the day of transfer or the proceeds of the sale, before commission and brokerage fees if sold on the day of transfer.

Financial Accountability

Accountability and Transparency

Our promise of financial accountability
89.9% of the money that supports family ministry comes from donors like you!

Only a fraction of every dollar contributed to Focus on the Family Canada comes from the sale of home-strengthening materials or other sources. So we must rely on the generosity of friends like you who benefit from family ministry. That’s why we’re very serious about earning your trust by using your support carefully and conservatively. If you find value in this ministry, please prayerfully consider supporting us now! Efficiency and effectiveness Every dollar you give to help support family is stretched to provide maximum impact and efficiency. We’ll honor your gifts — many of which we know are sacrificial —by being wise and careful stewards. In fact, almost 80% of Focus on the Family Canada’s efforts and delivered directly to families through ministry programs and services that depend on the generosity of friends like you. As the chart shows, 80 cents of every dollar you give goes directly to ministry that strengthens families, brings people to Christ and helps them grow in Him.

Meeting the highest ethical standards

We are stewards of all the resources God entrusts to us, and we’re accountable to our ministry partners, and to God, for how we use all that we receive. That’s why we’re committed to keeping our donors informed of our progress through regular reporting and why we’re certified members of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC), an independent standards setting organization. Focus on the Family Canada is reaccredited every year by the CCCC and closely adheres to the CCCC Standards of Organizational Integrity and Accountability.

Integrity in fundraising

The way an organization handles its finances is a reflection of its integrity and reliability in every area. We are guided by six principles and policies in our fundraising efforts:

  1. We believe that this ministry belongs of God and that we are merely His managers and stewards. He calls us to be accountable to His objectives, interests and concerns.
  2. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away (Job 1:21). As long as He supplies the means, we will serve others in His name. We understand that the future of His work does not depend on the survival of this organization.
  3. We won’t hesitate to let you know about our financial circumstances, both in the good times and in the bad. But we will not beg or resort to disrespectful or dishonorable fundraising, nor will we try to raise more money than we need.
  4. We will try not to run the ministry at a deficit. If on occasion it becomes necessary to borrow funds to cover large or unforeseen expenses, we will do our best to repay the loan as quickly as possible.
  5. We believe that your first financial obligation is to your local church. We request that you support the work of your own faith community first, before you contribute to Focus on the Family Canada.
  6. We will provide you with a tax receipt for donations of $5.00 and over.
These guidelines have defined our philosophy of financial stewardship and shaped our approach to fundraising. They are based upon a firm conviction that everything we are and everything we have comes to us by the grace of God. If we remain faithful, we’re confident that the Lord will sustain us while His purposes for this ministry endure.

Donations Given to Specific Projects

The majority of our annual operating budget sustains our essential services and programs. Each year, we strive to increase our outreach to families through a number of priority projects — either by expanding our existing projects or creating new projects altogether. Each restricted contribution designated toward these projects will be used for the purpose for which it was given with the understanding that when the need for such a project has been met or cannot be completed for any reason determined by the Board, the remaining restricted contributions designated for the project will be used where needed most. (CCCC Standard 7, #6)     Other Ways to Give >>
How are my donations used? Every gift to Focus on the Family Canada is used to provide families and individuals with a variety of home-strengthening resources. When you give, you help support dozens of ministry initiatives, ranging from radio broadcasting and publications to counselling and community events.

Here's how generous friends like you help:

  • When husbands and wives need to find trust, intimacy and faith, your gift helps strengthen their marriage relationship.
  • When families struggle with grief, confusion and tragedy, your gift helps them find healing and hope.
  • When people need to know God's love and His plan for families, your gift helps bring them closer to Him.
  • When pastors and their families are tired or discouraged, your gift helps them find restoration and healing.
We are stewards of all the resources God entrusts to us and we are accountable to our ministry partners and to God for how we use all that we receive. For more detailed, recent updates on our stewardship efforts and the impact your donations are having, please read the latest issue of our quarterly newsletter, inFocus.
